Happenings

I know, I know. It's been a very long time!

But I discovered a love for writing letters. I was about to type a blog post one day and thought, "Wait a sec. Why don't I use this time and energy to write my beautiful brother a letter?"

My dearest brother Jake is sacrificing and serving the Lord with all his might mind and strength in Mexico. And I love him :)

So of course--because my letters are on the low side and I miss him to pieces--I chose my brother :) And some friends that have moved away. I wanted to keep in touch with them too!

The result is this: No blog posts--but an abundance of letters!

So I have this master plan for today. In case ya'll (I have to practice using this word now) want to know what my life has been like recently (ya'll meaning the few that may actually read my blog) I've decided to post the un-personal parts of my letters that basically describe my life.... I know. I feel sorry for the poor souls that had to read these....sometimes ;) I'm getting better though!

p.s. I added "Dear Friend" to the beginning of each one of these excerpts. I don't really address my friends and family like that. You know--in real life.

Enjoy!

Dear friend,

Today I woke up late with greasy hair and stinky clothes. I missed the bus and ran to school in a blizzard--reminding myself that this less-than-ideal situation was worth getting to see the latest episode of Downton during my precious sleeping hours last night. I barely shaved off the eight minutes I overslept and got to class exactly on time. I squeezed my heels on over thick woolly stockings (totally the best things ever. They absorb water and keep your feet warm. Always) and danced away. Exhausted after class, I dragged myself to the bus stop before realizing that I was 20 minutes early. Deciding it'd be better to face the weather than to backtrack, I sat down on the snowy bench and read the newspaper between the falling flakes.

I decided that newspapers are 20% news, 30% ads, and 50% coupons.

The bus decided to be late.

20 minutes later I sat down to a bowl of apple slices and a swiss cheese & ham grilled sandwich--courtesy of my lovely roommate Catherine.
An hour after that I was curled up on my cozy bed, clean, full, smelling good and debating whether or not I should head out to class.

Argued with myself, ran to the bus, met some nice art major kids at the bus stop, zoned out through the ride, made it to class with 5 minutes to spare, became spiritually enlightened, and headed to the bookstore for some art supplies.

THEY WERE ACTUALLY IN STOCK THIS TIME!!!! :D

Had a Jamba.

It tasted like a liquid fruit roll-up.

And here I am :) Feeling refreshed and organized. My room is unbelievably clean and sorted. I wiped down the kitchen, did the dishes, and picked up the front room. I even made sticky notes of things to accomplish today and stuck them on my wall so I'll see them. I'm feeling better and wanted to let you know :)

It's amazing how a day can start off as a perfect mess and leave you feeling just a little bit more capable.

Dear Friend,

I'm off on an adventure! Don't know where or how or what yet, but just wait--it's coming!

My papers and interviews and everything are finished and IN as of 2 days ago. !!!!!! There are a lot of "ands" in that sentence.

I got 100% on my music quiz.

My Foxtrot dance test was today--it was terrifying. My body wanted to make things as hard as possible for me by having a spaz attack. Plus I was tired from a Team Lead conference early this morning. Too early. I found myself asleep in a booth upstairs in the Wilk an hour later. Pure luck I woke up right before my test started.

THE TEST, act 1: The frenzied girl sat up with a jerk. Where was she? Unfamiliar shapes started to take form as she rubbed her eyes and shook her head frantically. Nobody likes to look like they just woke up. Her mind blanked. What was that guy doing down there with that banana? Where was she again? Oh yeah. Test time. Still 10 minutes before it starts, may as well look nice. Or at least--nicer. She remembered seeing a bathroom next to the dance classroom. She proceeded to walk down the hall, trying to not look like she was in a hurry. Of course the bathroom's a stray and lonely "men's only". No big deal, she could find another one. For much like in life, the man is never far from the woman.

The Wilk men must hate women.

Searching, Searching... Success! Skirt on. Check. Leggings on. Check. Hair up. No good. Hair down. Gross. Hair sideways. Uh. Hair...Just ignore the hair. Face presentable. Besides the HUGE red sleep mark conquering half a forehead and eye?...Check. One minute left. No time for shoes. She ran to class in bright neon socks.

People were dancing everywhere. Slooow.. Slooow.. quick quick. The teacher had said "Pick any partner! The one you dance best with!" Check. There he was....dancing with another girl. That's cool. He IS super good--it makes perfect sense that more than one girl wants to be his partner. Plus, guys are sparse in this class. What was his name again? He came over and asked her if she was ready to dance. They signed their names up. Couple number 13. That's when the wild twitching began. The girl's legs sporadically leaped into the air followed by her uncontrollable arms and pulsing tense neck muscles. Teeth started to chatter. Tighten....release. Why does this always happen? Even when there are no nervous feelings? The test was underway. Just her luck, her partner had been asked by almost every girl in the class to dance. He never got to sit down as one by one (or I guess...two by two) everyone Foxtrotted their way to A's. Her turn. Not too bad. Shake it off.

Comments from the teacher: Good head line, Good knowledge of steps, Shoulders need to relax, taller lifting, don't look down in box twinkle.

She'd take that. Said thanks to her partner and headed to the bus stop.

Ok. I have NO idea what tense I'm writing in AND this story's pretty boring.

Some more exciting news: My room mates have planned a road trip to California. Catherine's Grandma lives there and so does Michelle's aunt. We're going for a few days during the long weekend next week. BUUUT I don't know if I can go because on that "too cute I'm going to throw up" holiday of hearts, I'm getting my Wisdom Teeth out.

I guess Valentine's day isn't so bad. I've had some great ones in the past. Wonderful memories :) This year's going to either make me sick or make me giggle every minute ;) Literally. Who knows what I'll be like on drugs? Probably crying at everything and eating a lot of ice cream. Ideal day to do that I guess. I won't be alone ;) Alright! I'm kidding! I think it will be a "very interesting situation!" (Hehe..read that line like Jimmy Stewart)

Dear Friend,

All about FOOD

College life + Food = ...... no correlation

First off, yesterday was free pancake day at IHOP/Nutella day. And so being the poor hungry student that I am--I went. And I thought of when we tried to do that last year. And I smiled.

Secondly, I made a delicious smoothie today using only OJ, Strawberries, and Bananas :)

I've been trying to actually eat this semester because last semester I was literally living off of the 4 granola bars I'd put in my backpack at the beginning of the day.

Did I mention that I am now the proud owner of a bread maker thingamajigger? Well. I am. And so I've vowed to start making bread ALL the time. Not just on Sunday Bread Night. (This includes premixing the dry ingredients for quick use throughout the week).

I've also started a strange habit of looking up homemade stuff that I'm going to make.

For example:
Homemade Ketchup (sounds soooooo good. Especially if it's anything like what they have in Ireland)
Homemade Sandwich Spreads
Homemade Zupas
Homemade Graham crackers
Homemade Jam

You get the idea ;) I spend more hours than I'd like to admit looking up recipes for things like this.....
I don't know what's gotten into me. I feel so....homemaker-esque.

One time last semester, I ate pancakes with peanut butter and ice cream. At the same party, I tried nutella pancakes with syrup and bananas.

Never again.

Although! Peanut Butter/Vanilla ice cream Pancakes taste delicious. No Joke. Try it sometime

I also tried to make a "healthy" smoothie out of oats, bananas, carrots, and leftover yogurt I found in the fridge. It was disgusting.

My roommates and I have discovered recently that Orange concentrate goes with a lot of food you'd never expect. We've even had it plain on rice and as a glaze over potatoes...(We have A LOT of orange concentrate right now. We couldn't resist the giant pack that was on sale at Coscto).

Strange times we be a liv'n in! (Say that with an Irish accent..tis enjoyable)

Peace out.

Dear Friend,

I wanted to dedicate this email to our past V-Day adventures. Because this Valentine's was pretty lame after the last couple of years.

I missed getting checked out of school and singing to everyone and their grandmother just to make them feel loved and special and wonderful :)
I missed "stop light" singing (You know--singing to random people through the car window at stop lights?)
I missed singing to Dad
I missed the treasure hunt

All the little kids came home that day and told me how sad they were that we didn't show up at their school to sing. I think my heart broke a little...

But it was alright after I started to find love notes that Dad had left everywhere for Mom to find. Hidden in cupboards and things. We're so lucky that our parents love each other so much :) I want someone like that when I'm older. I want my husband to love me so much that it makes my children sick.

Ok. Maybe not that.

Although V-Day lacked a lot that I was used to, I did have some adventure.

A guy sang to me outside my window. That doesn't happen everyday....

And I got to sing "Anthony" to an actual Anthony! Haha!
